Job Summary

The National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) encourages applications for a full-time Data Publication Specialist to join the Data Operations team to manage and support NSIDC's archive of satellite, aircraft, and ground data! The Data Operations team operates multiple automated systems for ingest, archival, and distribution of a broad range of NASA, NOAA, and other cryospheric data products.  The Data Publication Specialist will serve as a member of NSIDC cross-functional data management teams to help automate creation of science metadata for new data products, provide expertise on how best to organize and archive data for discovery and access, and train or develop documentation on QA/QC processes for internal and external collaborators.

  • Package and prepare metadata in intermediate and standard formats to support data ingest and discovery.
  • Develop scripts to extend or improve the automation of operational processes and support others in their roles.
  • Coordinate with DAAC Data Product Teams and external data producers to establish data transfers and data ingest.
  • Review and test data interoperability with targeted services and tools.
  • Develop training materials on QA/QC processes and lead presentations about the processes to internal and external partners.
  • Engage with science teams, data providers, and other data managers about data flows into and out of our systems.


  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Two years of experience in data management or metadata curation.
