Job description

DTN is a global leader providing insights and analytics to our customers to feed, fuel, and protect the world.  We help people make critical business decisions that impact the agriculture, oil and gas, trading, and weather industries.

It’s a difference you’ve likely felt without even knowing it. From the food on your plate to the gas in your car to the last flight you took, chances are a DTN customer made it possible. And that’s just for starters. That’s why we say, “When our customers prosper, we all win.”

Job Description:

DTN is looking for a Meteorological Data Scientist to join our team!

As a Meteorological Data Scientist, you will:

  • Develop data-driven solutions yielding predictive and prescriptive products based on meteorological, business- and consumer data.
  • Be a member of the cross-functional, agile and Transportation team that develops industry leading applications and data solutions for the transportation industry and work closely with our automated forecast team.
  • In collaboration with Software Architects, Software Engineers and DevOps Engineers, you will integrate your machine learning algorithms in our forecasting systems that run in a scalable cloud data infrastructure.

The forecasting systems developed and maintained by our teams are based on either physical modelling and/or statistical modelling. The forecast data we produce is used as input for all our products. For instance, for local authorities and the automotive industry we provide road surface temperature and road condition forecasts, our forecast data flows into various Decision Support Systems (e.g. for salt gritting on road networks in wintertime).

At DTN we design, build, test and release incrementally being conscious of a release's impact on our customer operations. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, have a relentless focus on the customer experience and want to build something new as well as being comfortable with the challenge of maintaining someone else’s code, then this role is for you.

What you bring to the team:

  • You have a bachelor’s degree in meteorology or a related study in the environmental sciences and have 5+ years of experience in the field of predictive modelling;
  • Excellent programming skills in e.g. Python, Java, Fortran, Bash and popular frameworks and tools in this context;
  • Experience with test-driven software development and software design principles;
  • Passion for quality and writing clean and robust well-instrumented code that scales and performs well, with a good understanding of usability and visual design principles;
  • Able to dive deep, but never out of touch with the details of the business and/or the technology;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both to technical and non-technical audiences in English;
  • You are comfortable with a working environment according to Agile software development principles;
  • Affinity or experience in Transport / Automotive Industry is a plus;
