Job description

Post-Doctoral Associate or Assistant Research Scientist  to perform research investigating processes that occur at or near the surface of Earth's ice sheets, including but not limited to surface mass balance, firn compaction and the role/fate of meltwater, climate variability and change, etc.  The work will involve analysis of satellite/airborne data products such as those produced by ICESat-2, GRACE-FO, Operation IceBridge, and/or optical or microwave sensors.  Ultimately, the work will yield an improved understanding of how we interpret satellite observations over the ice sheets as well as how ice sheets evolve in time in response to the atmosphere.  The work will require collaboration with other NASA researchers as well as researchers at other academic institutions.  Results of the work will be documented and prepared for publication in peer review journals.

Qualifications:

Knowledge
- ability to analyze observations of and/or model ice-sheet surface processes
- working with atmospheric and/or firn model data
- understanding of how an ice sheet works and how we measure them from space

Skills
- knowledge of Python/Matlab or other equivalent
- Ability to handle large remote sensing data sets
- Ability to write a publish scientific results and/or data sets

Experience
- PhD (Postdoc)
- PhD + Postdoctoral work (Asst research scientist)

To Apply: Interested candidates should send a CV with a list of at least 3 professional references and a cover letter explaining how your qualifications meet the posted requirements to anegri@umd.edu.
