Job description

 Background:

Marcus Weather Inc. is an agricultural weather analytics firm, since 2001 has provided weather risk consultation to hedge funds and food companies.  At its core, the Marcus Weather Inc. leverages a privately developed multi-million dollar weather data base designed for exclusively for commodity weather analysis. Correlated datasets are used to objectively quantify, interpret and identify outliers in global crop yield and energy demand. Clients have come to rely on Marcus Weather Services to anticipate the changes and new weather narratives to gain a competitive trading edge.

Title: Manager – Data Analytics (The position is full-time and fully remote, with flexible work schedule)

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Ph.D. or M.S. in Meteorology/Atmospheric Sciences/Geography
  • United States based
  • Proficient in use of R statistical programming (R, R Studio, Shiny Web Apps, Plumber APIs)
  • Additional experience in the following is a bonus, or related languages: Python (preferred), JavaScript, CSS, UNIX shell scripting and C/C++
  • Knowledge of GIS programs, ArcGIS/QGIS and extensive experience managing and manipulating meteorological or other geospatial datasets including GRIB, netCDF, Binary, HDF5 etc is required
  • An understanding of the impact of weather on agriculture and energy futures markets
  • Excellent report-writing and communication skills, with experience using MS office programs
  • Must be resourceful, self-motivated and very detail oriented.

Responsibilities: 

  • Maintain, clean, and develop data related services, to provide continued reporting, analysis, and easy usage to internal and external parties, utilizing efficient data pipeline architecture.
  • Provide software development and GIS related service to Marcus Weather, including (but not limited to): Weather and crop related geospatial analysis, geospatial tool development, geospatial platform development and client related UIs.
  • Utilize wide range of statistical methods to solve business related problems to the commodity sector with data, applying real world solutions, leading to improved company value and efficiency.
