Description:
Opportunities exist for meteorologists to join a dynamic environmental team in our Germantown, Maryland office. Excellent forecasting skills are required. Candidates must have good personal communication skills with clients (briefings via telephone/video), must be able to deal with stressful forecast situations, and meet deadlines. Also, candidates should have the ability to distill complex weather situations down to a simple level when required. We are looking for candidates that can operate effectively in a team setting as well as independently
Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, or other directly related field.
EXPERIENCE:
Up to five years of experience as a Meteorologist or three years of journey-level professional analytical experience that would demonstrate the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Advanced knowledge of the theories and principles of forecasting, mesoscale meteorology and models. Software applications commonly used in the field of meteorology and in the general business environment
SKILL/KNOWLEDGE DESIRED
- Forecasting in a variety of settings (complex terrain, marine etc.)
- Exercising judgement and discretion in forecasting large and small-scale events
- Making and participating in decisions based on meteorological data and interpretation
- Ability to distill meteorological information to a level understandable by clients
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Establish effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work
This position will require shift work, nights, weekends, holidays
