Job description

The Computational Geomorphology Group within the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado Boulder seeks a Post-Doctoral Associate with experience in earth surface dynamics research and numerical modeling. This position will be responsible for working on multiple earth surface process and geomorphology projects, with a particular focus on investigating the role of landslides in shaping terrain, creating hazards, and feeding sediment through river networks. You will collaborate with investigators at CU Boulder, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, West Virginia University, and the University of Washington. The successful applicant will conduct research using open-source modeling and data analysis tools, NASADEM data, and other digital elevation data products. The successful applicant will be expected to publish their research and attend/present at scientific meetings. Work is expected to include contributing to open-source numerical modeling and/or data analysis tools.

About the Computational Geomorphology Group: The CU Boulder Computational Geomorphology Group conducts research into diverse Earth surface processes and landforms. The Group works closely with the Community Surface Dynamics Modeling System (CSDMS), which is an open-source, community-based modeling effort with primary funding from the National Science Foundation. CSDMS promotes earth surface process modeling by developing, supporting, and disseminating integrated software components that investigate earth surface changes, including the production, erosion, transport, and deposition of sediment and nutrients in landscapes, seascapes, and their sedimentary basins. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Conduct research on landsliding and related processes using open-source modeling and data analysis tools.
  • Contribute to the growing collection of open-source software tools curated by CSDMS.
  • Work with NASADEM data, and other digital elevation data products.
  • Attend and present at scientific meetings.
  • Write manuscripts describing results.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

  • This is a two-year position with the possibility of extension contingent on performance and funding.
  • It is expected for this position to be in-office full-time.
