Purpose of Position

This is a postdoctoral research position to work on a recently funded National Science Foundation 'Critical Zone Thematic Cluster' grant to study carbon fluxes, ecohydrology, and nutrient availability in the carbonate-dominated soils of dryland ecosystems. The project has sites in Texas, New Mexico, and Idaho. While funded through UTEP, this position is located in Boise, Idaho and focused on the scientific field operations at the Idaho sites, including the Reynolds Creek Experimental Watershed and the Northwest Irrigation and Soils Research site in Kimberly, Idaho. We are specifically looking for a candidate who has experience working with eddy covariance towers and the data that they generate. Other useful areas of interest include soil science, soil biogeochemistry, knowledge of dryland ecosystem structure and function, and ecosystem-atmosphere gas exchange techniques.

Essential Functions

This is a standard postdoctoral position that involves performing and managing scientific research projects.

Publication of high quality peer-reviewed scientific papers is a key expectation.

Supervisory Responsibilities: May carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's objectives, policies and applicable laws.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Education required: PhD

Minimum Experience required: No years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.    Knowledge of statistical concepts and methods and their application to research analysis; of measurement, testing, and evaluation; and of research methods, principles, techniques, and philosophies.  Skilled in conducting research and in using computers, software, and statistical tools and programs.  Ability to plan, organize, and oversee research projects, evaluate research data, ensure the development of measuring instruments with respect to reliability, relevance, and validity, interpret and publish research findings, and communicate effectively.
