Job description

A postdoctoral research fellow position is available with Prof. Eric Kort’s research group at the University of Michigan (kort.engin.umich.edu) with an anticipated start date in Fall 2023 though earlier or later start dates are possible.  There are opportunities to be involved with a number of active projects seeking to use atmospheric observations to better quantify, attribute, and understand sources and sinks of greenhouse gases and air pollutants.  This includes opportunities to study impacts of oil and gas activities on the atmosphere (such as with the F3UEL project), to study urban emissions of greenhouse gases from space, as well as studies focused on methane emissions from tropical wetlands and nitrogen emissions from agricultural soils.

This position will involve the use of modeling tools to interpret airborne and space-based measurements and link observations to underlying fluxes.  In this position the research fellow will have the opportunity to interact with a broad scientific team across multiple institutes.

Candidates should have a PhD in a relevant science or engineering field. Experience with transport modeling (such as STILT, Flexpart, WRF, GEOS-Chem) and/or experience with inverse modeling and/or satellite observations is preferred though not required.

Please email a CV, a cover letter describing research experience and goals, and contact information for three references to Eric A. Kort eakort@umich.edu using the subject line: ATTN: Postdoctoral Search.  Applications will be considered on a rolling basis.

The University of Michigan is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
