Duties: The University of Maryland/Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center (UMD/ESSIC) via the Cooperative Institute for Climate & Satellites – Maryland (CICS-MD) invites applicants for postdoctoral positions in the area of data assimilation for global numerical weather prediction through systematic application of the observing system simulation experiments.  Successful candidates will work closely with scientists at NOAA Center for Satellite Application & Research (STAR) to assess impact of the new satellite instruments. Depending on the qualifications of the successful candidates, employment at different level may be possible. The positions are for 12 months with possibility of extension; starting salary is commensurate with experience.


Required Qualifications: Ph.D. degree in Meteorology, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or closely related disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications: Expertise in numerical weather prediction, satellite observations, and data assimilation. Experience with the NOAA operational global data assimilation system and parallel (MPI) programming.
