 Risk Modeler – KatRisk (Austin, TX)

About the Role

KatRisk is seeking a dynamic Risk Modeler for its new office in Austin, TX.  Candidates should be from a quantitative field and have a passion for problem solving with a focus in natural catastrophe and statistical modelling.  As a member of the KatRisk team, this role will support all facets of the business from creating unique and solution-based programs for specific problems to answering client questions.

Examples of projects for this role include:

  • Running the KatRisk Software Suite and analyzing results for client and internal studies
  • Generating large datasets for use in internal modelling
  • Writing custom code to manipulate and analyze complex numeric or geographic data sets
  • Writing original code or modifying existing code for any number of tasks (hydrologic modelling, precipitation modelling, geographic analysis, statistical analysis, enterprise solutions, GUIs, etc.
  • Report writing
  • Conference/Client presentations
  • Quality assurance

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree (B.S., M.S., PhD) in a quantitative field such as statistics, atmospheric sciences, or hydrology
    • Recent or upcoming graduates are encouraged to apply
  • Experience in any programming language
  • Written and verbal skills
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

Useful Additional Qualifications

  • Knowledge of LINUX user environment and command line operation
  • Programming Languages
    • R, FORTRAN, BASH scripting, C++
  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
    • QGIS, GDAL
  • Academic Disciplines
    • Meteorology, Hydrology, Statistics
