Job Description

Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is a multi-program laboratory applying state of the art science and
practical, high-value, cost-effective solutions to complex technical problems to protect the nation. Located at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Savannah River Site (SRS), the laboratory develops and deploys innovative technologies to address some of the nation’s environmental, energy, and national security challenges.

The successful candidate will engage in meteorological related research, modeling, and analysis for atmospheric transport, contaminant fate, and data collection to characterize source emissions and develop novel techniques to improve reliability and understand prediction uncertainty. Scientists will team with other SRNL researchers on a variety of research projects, including participation in field experiments to improve emergency response, national security, and nuclear nonproliferation.

Scope technical tasks and develop creative solutions to assigned problems. Begin using SRNS systems and meeting SRNS requirements with minimal supervisory guidance. Accepts complex tasks and receives minimal guidance from senior professionals. Incorporate conventional engineering or scientific practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning. Provide limited guidance and direction to less senior engineering professionals. Carry out development and qualification programs on tasks concurrent with other phases such as design and fabrication to better evaluate and minimize future problems. Develop alternate solutions to existing problems. Perform all detail work necessary to determine best solutions. Evaluate proposals and make recommendations based on proposed projects/tasks in area of assignment. May delegate portions of the detail work to less senior personnel. Prepare costs and schedule estimates on proposed projects/tasks in assigned area. Demonstrate cost and schedule consciousness through timely completion of assigned tasks and projects. Prepare manuals and other documents supporting or publicizing the technical effort. Demonstrate creative ability through medium of patent disclosures, problem solving, engineering reports, technical papers and articles.

Salary Range (annual) $72,792 - $125,724


Salary offers are commensurate with candidate's experience and applicable education in comparison to incumbents.

Basic Education Qualifications

Bachelor degree in applicable science or engineering discipline

Other Required Qualifications

Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance!
