Meteorology Alumni and Faculty and Trustee Scholarship

As an alum, you know the value of a Penn State meteorology degree. Recently, a departmental task force surveyed prospective students who chose to attend other universities over the past two years, and 70 percent of students expressed that the main reason they did not attend Penn State was the cost of tuition. They, like you, believed in the value of a Penn State degree from this department, but their families simply couldn’t afford it.

So that more students can say yes to Penn State when they get their offers, a small group of alumni and faculty, including myself, have together pledged more than $100,000 to establish the Meteorology Alumni and Faculty Trustee Scholarship in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences. Trustee Matching Scholarships are unique in that the University matches the amount of spendable income created by the endowment, doubling the amount of funds available to students every year.

This match will only be in effect for gifts made through November 30, 2016, so today, we are asking all of our alums to push this scholarship to new heights. Please consider contributing an amount that is meaningful to you, and know that your gift—if made before this deadline—will have twice the impact on the future of our department and the students we support. No gift is too small to show future Penn Staters that you believe in them.

We hope you will join us as we invest in the future of meteorology and atmospheric science at Penn State.

Sincerely,

Dr. David Stensrud
Department Head of Meteorology and Atmospheric Science
